About Pop-Up Book Academy -

Pop-Up Book Academy (P.B.A.), an itinerant bookstore, is in actuality a school that materializes behind the mask of a bookseller. Its curriculum utilizes the printed form as a vehicle for investigating social politics and its varied histories.

P.B.A. co-opts the practice of high-end retailers adopting unique spaces to create a temporary store location for their products: in our case, books. All cash garnered through P.B.A. sales are pooled into a fund to help produce free Red76 publications, which are then distributed throughout the United States and abroad. When funds allow, grants are given to other individuals or groups to help produce their own free printed matter. A guest lecturer leads each P.B.A. session. Past lecturers have included Steve Lambert, Michael Rakowitz, Matthew Stadler, Lize Mogel, Alexis Bhagat, and others.
